Berry Citrus Smoothie

I've been feeling pretty sluggish since the sugar and meat-a-palooza known as Christmas so I decided to start easing into my New Years juice cleanse a little early. This is today's breakfast.

Berry Citrus Smoothie
1 Red Grapefruit, peeled and sectioned
1 Orange, peeled and sectioned
1/2 C Frozen Mixed Berry Blend
1/2 Inch piece of Ginger, peeled

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Makes about 24 ounces.

Good Morning Sunshine Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 Lemon
1 Orange
5-6 Slices of frozen Peaches
1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
1/2 C Almond Milk
1 Shot of Liquid Multi Vitamin (Optional)
Peel lemon and orange by cutting off each end
and carefully run your knife down each side to cut off the rest of the peel and pith.
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until combined.

Day 2: 30 days of Gluten Free

Day 2 no gluten. Woke up this morning drank a smoothie and went on a 10 mile bike ride. When we came home we whipped up a couple of protein shakes. I could have really gone for a sandwich on some hearty whole grain bread.... I did notice I wasn't as hungry today and I'm usually starved all day (I've thought it a combination of sleep deprivation and breastfeeding the little one). Dr Davis in Wheat Belly claims wheat to be an appetite stimulant. I'm interested to see if I continue to not have as much of an appetite or if today was just a fluke.

Breakfast: Be-et Mine Smoothie

2 Apples Cored
1 Beet, with Greens scrubbed and quartered
1/4 inch piece of Ginger
1/2 C sliced Strawberries
2 C Water
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Drink and share!

Lunch: Apple with Almond Butter (Hubbs had Creamy Chicken with Wild Rice Soup- VitaMart Soup of the Day)

Snacks: Protein Shake with Strawberries
Fruit and Nut Trail Mix

Dinner: Quinoa Fried "Rice" with Beyond Meat Chicken Strips and Veggies

(after dinner I also had 1/2 of a gluten free cupcake leftover from the little guys first birthday, wasn't as satisfying as I thought it would be)

C Boost Green Smoothie

We have seen an influx of people with colds and flu in the store lately so I decided to add a boost of vitamin C to my green drink today via an orange and a kiwi! Since today has been particularly hectic, I didn't take pictures of the process. Teething baby = frazzled mom!

1 small Apple cored
1 Orange peeled
1 Kiwi peeled
1/2 C Wheatgrass
2 C Kale
1/2 inch fresh Ginger
1 shot of liquid multivitamin (optional)
1 1/2 C water

Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

I used an Organic liquid multivitamin that I was sampled by Genesis today. I love it so much we are going to be selling it in the store!

Hey you kids get off my lawn!

Happy New Year! I'm getting a late start on posting this year because the word around our house for 2014 is routine. We are trying to find our groove and get baby into a bed time routine (we need sleep), get ourselves into a routine at home and in the store to live a more organized life this year, and maybe feel a little less crazy! A big component of our morning routine this year will be green smoothies. My mom got us a Ninja Ultima Blender for Christmas and it is awesome! We had wanted a Vitamix for years but could never justify the price. The Ninja Ultima does everything the Vitamix does except make soup, which I have no use for unless I was to have my jaw wired shut.

Since I have been lacking in sleep I wanted to start off with a simple energizing drink. Wheatgrass is a great natural energizer as well as a great detoxifier and many other great properties listed here.
Many people don't like the taste of wheat grass and the shots can be pricey so I combine it with apple to make it a tasty way to start the day. I also believe scary looking juice should have fun names so I call this one....
Hey you kids get off my Lawn!

1 medium Apple, cut into slices an core removed

1/2 C Fresh Cut Wheat Grass

1/2 to 1 C Bottled Water (depending on desired thickness, due to the amount of fiber you will end up with more of an applesauce with less water)

Put everything in the blender, start it out on low speed then crank it up. Blend for about 2 minutes or until you no longer see chunks.
I left mine pretty thick.

The Daily Green

This is my favorite green smoothie for newbies. It has a good dose of greens from Kale and Dandelion greens, which are great for the liver, but also has pear, carrot and apple for sweetness and ginger for zing!

2 Carrots
2 leaves Kale
Handful of Dandelion Greens
1 Pear
1 large or 2 small Apples
1/2 inch peice of Ginger
2 C Water

Cut apples into large chunks to remove core.
Repeat with pear.

Cut ends off carrots, then cut in half.
I just wash the greens and throw them in whole. Cut off a 1/2 peice of ginger. It should be about this big.
Put everything in the blender,

and let'er rip!
It makes about 40 oz of smoothie so divide it up over the course of the day,

or share with someone you love!
